An international luxury hotel is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to lead and develop its HR function. The property employs approximately 200 full-time and 100 casual staff, with a young and diverse HR team of five. The role requires strong leadership to elevate HR capabilities, coach and guide a relatively inexperienced team, and act as a trusted partner to both the General Manager and ownership group.
An international luxury hotel is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to lead and develop its HR function. The property employs approximately 200 full-time and 100 casual staff, with a young and diverse HR team of five. The role requires strong leadership to elevate HR capabilities, coach and guide a relatively inexperienced team, and act as a trusted partner to both the General Manager and ownership group.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the HR department (5 team members) and strengthen professionalism, workflows, and compliance standards.
- Provide continuous coaching and training support, particularly in labor law, compliance, and hospitality HR best practices.
- Manage complex reporting lines: direct report to the General Manager, and dotted-line reporting to Group HRD
- Serve as a trusted advisor to ownership, ensuring seamless and proactive communication, including regular updates and detailed reporting to manage expectations.
- Partner with the Excom team and department heads to deliver strong HR support aligned with operational goals.
- Oversee HR systems and processes, and support system upgrades while ensuring compliance with local data privacy laws.
- Build strong cross-cultural relationships across the group, fostering collaboration and effective communication via digital channels (WhatsApp, email, calls).
- Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, service standards, and long-term talent development.
- Proven HR leadership experience within luxury hotels or service-driven industries.
- Solid understanding of Australian labor laws, with the ability to explain complex compliance issues clearly and act as an internal HR legal advisor.
- Experience working with regional or multi-property structures is an advantage.
- Strong cross-cultural management skills and ability to embrace diversity in a young, multicultural team.
- Track record of building, training, and developing HR teams in dynamic environments.
- Highly reliable, proactive, and capable of managing high-pressure expectations with diplomacy and professionalism.
